Heinz von Perckhammer as LZ-127 passenger in 1929

Beitragvon pasol » 19. Mär 2013, 19:04

Hello friends,

in most cases we showed and discussed the mails from Zeppelin crew members. This is primarily due to the fact that some of them are well-known, including: the last name, first name and handwriting ...
Less common mails from passengers during Zeppelin flights. It's difficult to identify its exactly for particular person.
However, it is often very unusual types, as is has a memorable character in addition to the standard usage.
Sometimes it's difficult to attribute its to a specific number in catalogs 8-) .
I would like to show such interesting items about this thread from my collection and also known to me.
First of all... unusual card (unlisted in this form in Sieger No.#31C var ;) ) from my collection, it was sent by LZ-127 passenger Heinz von Perckhammer, photographer for "Die Woche" during the Round the World flight 1929. Carried with LZ-127 to Tokio/Japan, and mailed from Tokyo to England.
It has two different! on board cancels: August 15th and August 20th, 1929 (start and finish of the first flight leg) :D .

Best regards,
pasol.

Hello Pasol,
A really impressive an special piece of the "Around The World Trip" by the Graf Zeppelin.
My Gratulations !
Concerning the two different board cancels:
As far as i know, the board stamp was free to use for every passenger. So they used it for souveniers also. Like on my postcard, unfortunately without any passenger or crew writings.
In my point of view Mr. Perckhammer used the board stamp at the beginning of the journey and used this card again when they arrived in Tokio.
Well, a quit good idea. So he recorded the complete first (german) leg.

Many Thanks for showing

Greatings
Klaus

Hello pasol & Klaus. I do agree this is a very interesting thread :) , i have very few pieces of passenger mail in my collection, the pieces that i have i have shown in other threads. I do agree with pasol on his views of collecting passenger mail, they are far harder to detect than crew members mail, becauce if you have one piece of a certain crew members mail finding others from the same crew member is relitively easy to do, but for passenger mail it is a different story firstly you have to find the list of passengers which were onboard the flight which sometimes is difficult to find out unless it was one of the well publicized flights like the "1929 RTWF, 1930 SAF, and the 1931 POLAR FLIGHT", on these flights you can with out much trouble find a list of passengers and crew, but on the majority of flights with out deeper and deeper investigation (which is part of the enjoyment) finding out lists of passengers is much harder to do. I do have some of Zeppelin picture Postcards (not sent by Zeppelin) which were sent by people from various places (Friedrichshafen, Frankfurt, etc) with short messages on about what they were doing, like for instance i know this is going off subject but i would like to show this Postcard. Sent from Frankfurt on the 14/10/1936 to Cheltenham Spa, Gloustershire, England, it reads "Well we have just viewed the Hindenburg, a grand sight - came here by the famous Hittler Strasse a new modern road for motors only 95 miles long quite a straight track - very busy place (Frankfurt) factories etc. yours J Cokayne.". So i also find enjoyment as well on reading Holiday Postcards which were sent as well (in English the better). I enclose a picture of this Postcard, and as well to continue pasols thread i enclose a picture of the LZ 127 in the hangers at Friedrichshafen after the 1929 "RTWF".

Hello friends,
thank you @TALLTREES for your support :!:
it's second card (among known me ;) ), but the same form, from Mr.Heinz von Perckhammer during Round the World flight 1929 to other address in Berlin/Germany.
I decided to show other similar postal card as an example of capabilities for search and trouvaille the additions to their collections, even among the rare items ..."vires acquirit eundo" - cuts through the path it follows :D .

pasol.
