"LATE MAIL" 21st South America Flight 1936

Beitragvon TALLTREES » 30. Sep 2010, 16:29

Hello again. Could any member give me some information on this Cover. The Two Liechtenstein Postmarks on the Cover show the date " 30.X1.36 " (30. NOVEMBER 1936), the only "HINDENBERG" flight that this Cover could have been sent on left Frankfurt Main on the " 25.11.36" (7 S.A.F OF THE HINDENBERG) so the Cover could "NOT" have gone on that flight ?. On the back of the Cover is a large "FRANKFURT BAHNPOST" Postmark (the date is not readable), and a "TARDE RIO" Postmark dated "-5.12.36". Acording to the flight schedule the Hindenberg which arrived in Rio on the "29.11.36" so this Cover arrived "6" days later than mail from the Hindenberg?. So i suppose that it was sent by "DLH" from Frankfurt and then how it completed the rest of the trip probably by aeroplane hence the "MIT LUFTPOST" "par avion" - "con aeroplane" label. :?:
Thanks again

Hi Talltrees,

the date of the Frankfurt marking is 1 December 1936.

Your cover was intended for the 21st South America Flight 1936 which was scheduled to be operated by LZ-129 Hindenburg departing Frankfurt on 2 December 1936. But this flight was canceled, and the all the mail was sent on 3 December 1936 by DLH German Schleuderflug/catapult service to South America, arriving Rio on 5 December 1936.

Nice piece since there is not much mail known which was intended for the 21st South America Flight.

Hello Zeppelin. I have found another one of these Covers on a online auction, but on the back of this Cover it gives the explanation of the event of the failiure of the flight " Wegen Ausfall der 21 Sudamerikafahrt, am 3.12 mit Lufthansa" (just as you said).
